We have made a monumental mistake as a society. By outsourcing the bulk of our manufacturing to communist China over the past several decades, we basically gifted our enemy the keys to our kingdom – and it’s all now coming to a head, thanks to the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19).
As you may already know, the outbreak is greatly disrupting major supply chains to the point that certain goods we’ve all come to rely on in our daily lives could run dry in the coming weeks or days. One of these is pharmaceuticals, the vast majority of which are now produced in China.
It might shock you to learn that upwards of 80 percent of all drugs in general, and a 97 percent of all antibiotics specifically, are either made in China or their ingredients are sourced there. What this means is that, in the event that exports from China suddenly cease, you can kiss your life-saving medications goodbye.
How did we end up in this position? Corporate greed coupled with political corruption, as well as a general apathy among a population that got used to buying cheap junk rather than American quality at a higher price. And now it’s time to pay the piper.
In a recent article he penned for The American Prospect, David Dayen highlights how communist China now maintains an almost total manufacturing monopoly on goods produced not just for the American market, but also for the entire world.
Drugs in particular, which many would argue are necessary for health and life, are almost entirely manufactured in a country that President Trump declared a trade war on last year – which is kind of scary if you really stop to think about it. And now with the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) complicating the situation even more, many are wondering how long it might be before Walgreen’s and CVS have nothing left to sell to their customers.
“China produces and exports a large amount of pharmaceuticals to the U.S., including 97 percent of all antibiotics and 80 percent of the active ingredients used to make drugs here,” Dayen warns. “Penicillin, ibuprofen, and aspirin largely come from China,” he adds, covering the gamut of fundamental infection-fighting and pain-relieving drugs that millions of Americans use every single day.
Listen below as Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, talks about how the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) is shaping up to be an economic “black swan” event that could take down the entire global economy:
Many of our electronics, including laptops and smartphones, are also made in China, which means these, too, could disappear in the not-too-distant future.
Even our military depends on communist China for defense and electronics systems that Dayen says, in many cases, only come from China.
“Rare earth minerals, which are critical to electronics, are largely mined in China,” he writes. “As a result, Chinese disruptions don’t just hit Chinese manufacturing, they hit everyone’s. Automakers have already had to slow or shut down factories globally due to supply shortages.”
And how about those face masks that everyone is wearing these days? Those, too, are a product of China in almost every instance. China runs the world when it comes to making things that we all need in order to live. And just as easily as China can churn these things out for pennies on the dollar, it can also stop the whole thing with a proverbial flip of a switch.
