In an effort to stop “conspiracy theories” and “misinformation” from spreading online, the crowdfunding website GoFundMe has decided to join in on Big Tech’s censorship spree by banning all “anti-vaxxers” from raising money through its platform – because apparently only pro-vaxxers deserve to fundraise.
According to GoFundMe spokesman Bobby Whithorne, people who try to raise funds in promotion of what his company regards as unfounded skepticism about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines “violate GoFundMe’s terms of service and will be removed from the platform.”
“We are conducting a thorough review and will remove any campaigns currently on the platform,” Whithorne added, emphasizing the fact that GoFundMe has made this purging effort a top priority.
Larry Cook is a vaccine skeptic who has already been targeted and removed from GoFundMe for running a website that argues against mandatory vaccination policies. Not only was Cook removed from GoFundMe, but the mainstream media reportedly also launched a smear campaign against him in an attempt to destroy his reputation and credibility.
Regardless of whether or not one agrees with Cook and his assertions about vaccines, his right to assert them is guaranteed under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. But GoFundMe and many other Big Tech players have made it crystal clear that they don’t respect free speech, and are thus anti-American.
“Whether you believe it’s true or not, everyone is entitled to their opinion,” Melissa Sullivan, a vaccine skeptic who currently serves as the executive vice president of the group Health Choice Connecticut, is quoted as saying.
“I would hope they would reconsider,” she added, referring to GoFundMe. “This movement needs to be able to get funds in order to fight pharma giants like Merck and other vaccine manufacturers.”
A closer look into why GoFundMe feels so strongly about silencing opposing viewpoints about vaccines reveals something that probably won’t come as much of a shock: GoFundMe is in bed with Big Pharma.
As it turns out, GoFundMe’s owners have close financial ties to Big Pharma, as the company was acquired back in 2015 for $600 million by an investor group known as Accel Partners, which is also heavily invested in the pharmaceutical industry.
This huge conflict of interest explains why GoFundMe doesn’t want anyone raising money on its platform for causes that might lead to decreased profits for Big Vaccine – which is exactly what vaccine skepticism does by swaying parents against getting their children vaccinated.
It remains to be seen what other hot-button issues will also get caught in GoFundMe’s censorship net, seeing as how Accel Partners maintains a large investment portfolio that presumably carries with it many other potential conflicts of interest.
Google-owned YouTube is also engaged in censorship of content that promotes vaccine skepticism, as is Amazon, which recently banned all “anti-vaccine” movies from its Prime service.
Where it all ends is anyone’s guess, but one thing is for sure: Free speech online is quickly going the way of the dodo bird. And unless Americans take a stand by demanding that Congress take action to break up these tech monopolies, the tyranny will only escalate.
“The safety and efficacy of vaccines is not settled science any more than anthropogenic climate change,” points out one Big League Politics’ commenters.
“There have been opposing views, going back to Antoine Beauchamp and his Terrain Theory … There is legitimate information to counter the fascistic propaganda, which is precisely why it is being actively suppressed.”
This same commenter correctly adds that it’s a tragedy that still so many so-called conservatives “favor censorship and punishment of dissenters on this issue just as leftists do on climate change.”
